Taiwan Space Agency Leads International MRV Initiative for Climate Action Ahead of COP30

CARBON CAPTURE

The Taiwan Space Agency is a key player in a ten-year international collaborative program focused on Monitoring, Reporting, Validation, and Verification (MRV) of greenhouse gases, endorsed by the International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative (IPSI) under UNU-IAS. This initiative, utilizing a System-of-Systems approach, emphasizes Socio-Ecological Production Landscapes and Seascapes (SEPLS) to enhance ecosystem integrity and Indigenous rights while ensuring credible carbon markets.

Dr. Tsung-Sheng Cheng leads efforts in applying satellite and remote sensing technologies to sustainability challenges, allowing for large-area coverage and long-term monitoring. The project collaborates with researchers from Taiwan, the US, and Canada, and has secured agreements for carbon credits with the AirCarbon Exchange in Singapore, facilitating participation in voluntary carbon markets. The framework aims for global replication, positioning Taiwan at the forefront of space technology and biodiversity conservation in climate governance.
