Taiwan's SEPLS Carbon Model Integrates Indigenous Practices with Global Climate Frameworks
The SEPLS Carbon Credit Regional Revitalization Center has joined the FAO Mountain Partnership, enhancing an Indigenous-led carbon model. This initiative focuses on integrating socio-ecological systems with climate frameworks to improve carbon sequestration and biodiversity outcomes.

The SEPLS Carbon Credit Regional Revitalization Center is now part of the FAO Mountain Partnership, promoting an Indigenous-led model that aligns with global climate strategies. This model utilizes vertical wetland systems and agroforestry landscapes to achieve high-integrity carbon sequestration and biodiversity conservation, supported by advanced Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems incorporating AI and remote sensing.
It emphasizes the active involvement of local communities in climate governance, ensuring equitable benefit-sharing. The initiative demonstrates potential for replicable climate finance mechanisms while addressing the dual goals of environmental sustainability and community resilience. As Taiwan engages with international frameworks, the approach may serve as a scalable model for integrating local stewardship with global climate objectives.
