Tanzania Registers 82 Carbon Trading Projects to Enhance Economic and Environmental Welfare

CARBON CAPTURE

Tanzania has registered 82 carbon trading projects, with four fully implemented, according to Engineer Hamad Yussuf Masauni, Minister of State in the Vice-President's Office. These projects aim to generate revenue and improve citizens' welfare.

Masauni presented a report on the National Carbon Coordination Centre (NCMC) to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Water and Environment. The projects are being executed in several local government authorities, including Tanganyika, Kiteto, Karagwe, Uvinza, and Mbulu.

Carbon trading facilitates the buying and selling of carbon credits to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Benefits include climate change mitigation, environmental conservation, and economic strengthening.

The NCMC is responsible for registering and validating carbon projects, which include various sectors such as energy, transportation, and agriculture. The implementation process involves several steps from project concept to approval and activity commencement within two years.
