Telangana TRANSCO Limits Lift Irrigation Power Supply to Daylight Hours
Telangana TRANSCO has mandated that lift irrigation pumps operate only during daylight hours due to financial constraints and high electricity costs. This decision affects the continuous power supply request from the Irrigation Department for the Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme. TRANSCO cited the need to purchase electricity from the open market at high rates as a reason for the schedule change and highlighted outstanding dues of Rs 33,653 crore that threaten its financial stability.

Telangana TRANSCO has directed the Irrigation Department to operate all lift irrigation pumps only during daylight hours, ceasing 24-hour power supply. This decision follows a request from the Irrigation Department for continuous power for two pumps at the Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme.
TRANSCO stated that this would impose financial burdens on utilities and necessitate purchasing expensive electricity from the open market. The organization also requested immediate payment of Rs 500 crore in electricity charges and noted an outstanding total of Rs 33,653 crore in dues, which includes various maintenance and capital work bills. Immediate payment clearance was also requested from the Finance Department.
