Texas A&M Breaks Ground on $226 Million Semiconductor Institute
The Texas A&M Semiconductor Institute, a $226 million initiative, aims to reduce dependence on overseas chip production. By training skilled technicians and fostering partnerships, it addresses national security and economic growth in the semiconductor sector.

The Texas A&M Semiconductor Institute, with a budget of $226 million, commenced construction on April 9 at the RELLIS campus. This facility will encompass approximately 80,000 square feet, featuring advanced clean rooms and labs that replicate semiconductor manufacturing environments.
It is projected to be operational by 2028, supporting hands-on training for students in semiconductor engineering and addressing workforce needs. The establishment of TSI is a strategic initiative to enhance domestic chip production capabilities, critical for national security, as highlighted by Texas Governor Greg Abbott. The project is positioned to strengthen Texas' leadership in semiconductor manufacturing while bridging the gap between academic research and industry application.
