Thales SE has launched Luna 8, a hardware security module designed to protect enterprises from quantum computing threats. The appliance supports both current encryption and post-quantum algorithms, enabling organizations to modernize their security architecture under pressing regulatory deadlines from the U.S. and France.
The U.S. mandates post-quantum cryptography for sensitive systems by 2030, while France will cease certification of non-quantum-secure products by the end of 2026. Luna 8 aims to mitigate risks associated with the 'harvest now, decrypt later' strategy employed by cybercriminals.
It features a high-performance cryptographic processor, and its upgradeable architecture allows adaptation to future PQC algorithms. Certification assessments for Luna 8 are ongoing, targeting FIPS 140-3 Level 3 and EU Common Criteria compliance. This solution may significantly enhance organizational readiness against evolving quantum threats.
