Theft of Transformer Oil Disrupts Electricity for 40% of Amancio, Las Tunas
A theft of 600 liters of transformer oil has left nearly 5,000 customers in Amancio, Las Tunas, without power. This incident highlights the ongoing energy crisis in Cuba, exacerbated by rising thefts of critical infrastructure components.

The theft of 600 liters of transformer oil from two 500-kilowatt transformers in Amancio, Las Tunas, has caused a blackout affecting 4,947 customers, including residents in El Batey, Nueva Paz, and rural areas. Key facilities such as the Luis Aldana Palomino clinic and the Alipio Carrillo water pumping station have also lost power.
Recovery efforts are underway, with authorities coordinating a replacement of the stolen oil expected soon. This incident is part of a broader trend of increasing transformer oil thefts across Cuba, driven by a severe energy crisis and black market demand. Legal repercussions for such thefts have intensified, with harsh penalties enforced for sabotage against the National Electric System (SEN).
