Torbay has launched a nearly £30 million fleet of electric buses, making it the second area in the UK with an all-electric fleet. Stagecoach invested 75% of the funds, with additional support from the Department for Transport and Torbay Council.
The fleet consists of six minibuses, a dozen midibuses, and 37 double-deckers, all equipped with wheelchair ramps, next-stop announcement screens, and air conditioning powered by zero-emission heat pumps. The buses operate quietly, with minimal disturbance for passengers and pedestrians. The minibuses and double-deckers are manufactured by Alexander Dennis in the UK, while the midibuses are made by China's Yutong.
