Tripura Expands Solar Power Access with Government Subsidies
Tripura has made significant advances in solar energy, providing free power to over 12,000 families and aiming for 300,000 connections. This initiative supports agricultural irrigation and education, fostering economic development in remote areas.

Tripura has established solar microgrids, granting free power to 12,103 families across 347 remote locations. The government subsidizes solar panel installations, costing Rs 2.86 lakhs per installation while families contribute only Rs 15 thousand.
Solar-powered pumps facilitate irrigation for 40,000 'Kanis' of farmland, benefiting 7,951 agricultural families. Plans are in place to connect 300,000 families at low costs, with heavy government subsidies under the 'PM Suryaghar Yojana.'
Currently, Tripura generates 9.3 megawatts of solar power, with projections to reach 38 megawatts soon. However, issues with bill payments from certain consumers could hinder future growth and sustainability of the solar initiatives.
