TVA Abandons Power Line Plan After Public Opposition in Tennessee
The Tennessee Valley Authority has abandoned its power line proposal through the Gregory farm following significant public backlash. This decision impacts future utility projects amid increasing demand for electricity driven by data center expansions in the state.

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has withdrawn its proposal to construct a power line across the Gregory family's 650-acre farm after public opposition intensified. The planned 100-foot-wide corridor would have disrupted critical farm infrastructure, including the farm school's outdoor classroom used for teaching over 300 children annually.
The Gregory family engaged the community through petitions and social media, culminating in support from public figures, which contributed to the TVA’s decision in March 2026. This case highlights the potential for landowners to resist utility projects through organized public campaigns, particularly as the demand for power rises with the growth of data centers in Tennessee, currently numbering 60. The unresolved legislative environment may lead to further conflicts over land use and utility projects.
