UCAL Shifts Focus from Carburetors to Electric Vehicle Components and Exports
UCAL Ltd., based in Chennai, is transitioning from traditional auto parts like carburetors to focus on electronics and EV components. Under Deputy Managing Director Adithya Jayakar, the company is targeting the aftermarket for higher margins and expanding export earnings, particularly in Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East. UCAL is investing heavily in R&D for mechatronics and green mobility solutions, with plans to achieve over 70% of power from renewable sources. The shift aims to position UCAL as a leading engineering firm in a decarbonized automotive market.

UCAL Ltd. is pivoting from carburetors and mechanical fuel pumps to focus on electronics and electric vehicle (EV) components. Under Deputy Managing Director Adithya Jayakar, the company aims to sustain growth by targeting the aftermarket, which offers higher margins, and increasing exports to regions like Latin America and Africa.
UCAL is investing in mechatronics, establishing an R&D center for electronics, and planning significant capital expenditures, totaling Rs 107.48 crore between FY21 and FY25. The company now derives over 70% of its power from renewable sources as it seeks to adapt to sustainable mobility goals.
