UK Expands Boiler Upgrade Scheme to Include Air Conditioning Grants
Households in England and Wales can apply for £2,500 grants for air-to-air heat pumps by the end of April 2026. This initiative aims to support the transition to low carbon heating solutions as demand for air conditioning rises due to increasing summer temperatures.

By the end of April 2026, households in England and Wales will have access to £2,500 grants for air-to-air heat pumps under the extended Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS). Previously excluded, these heat pumps can cool indoor air, enhancing comfort during hotter months, and are especially suited for small homes.
Grants for air source and ground source heat pumps remain at £7,500, but air-to-air units cost between £1,500 and £3,500. The UK witnessed record temperatures last summer, driving demand for cooling solutions. This scheme supports a broader effort to promote low carbon technologies and could influence market dynamics for heating and cooling systems.
