Ukrainian Parliament Urges Global Action on Nuclear Safety Amid Russian Aggression
The Verkhovna Rada has passed Resolution No. 15133, calling for enhanced international nuclear safety measures and accountability for Russia. This initiative highlights the risks posed by military actions at Ukrainian nuclear facilities, particularly in light of the Chornobyl disaster's anniversary.

The Verkhovna Rada adopted Resolution No. 15133 with 311 votes, urging global partners to bolster nuclear safety and pressure Russia to end violations related to nuclear facilities. The resolution emphasizes the need for effective mechanisms to safeguard nuclear sites and to hold violators accountable, specifically targeting actions at the Chornobyl and Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plants.
It also invites the international community to a donor conference on April 26, 2026, to support the restoration of the Chornobyl confinement structure. Following a drone strike on February 14, 2025, the New Safe Confinement at Chornobyl was reported to have lost some safety functions, although key structures remain intact. The call to action serves as a reminder of the ongoing risks to nuclear safety posed by military conflicts.
