Pat Pitney, president of the University of Alaska System, delivered her final State of the University address, stating the institution has moved from a focus on survival to long-term success. She noted achievements including positive enrollment growth and a record $273 million in research funding, alongside a potential $160 million grant from the National Science Foundation.
Pitney highlighted initiatives such as the Arctic Leaders Initiative and plans for a National Arctic Policy Center to strengthen Alaska's global presence. With her retirement in May, the university is seeking new leadership while continuing discussions on state industries, including a liquid natural gas pipeline and critical mineral mining.
