Upcoming Renewal of Public Sector AI and Automation Contracts (2026-2028)
The first wave of public sector AI and automation contracts will face renewal between July 2026 and June 2028, totaling £85.9m. This renewal period presents opportunities for suppliers to engage with buyers ahead of re-competition, potentially weakening incumbent advantages.

Eighty-seven AI and automation contracts, valued at £85.9m, are set to expire between July 2026 and June 2028. Automation contracts dominate this total with £51.7m, while AI for customer operations and generative AI account for £18.2m and £16m, respectively.
Key expiration dates include Q3 2026 with £14.4m in generative AI and Q4 2027, where £22m primarily consists of automation. Suppliers are advised to track expiry dates to effectively engage buyers and shape contract outcomes before tenders are published. This proactive approach may allow suppliers to influence decisions, particularly as the public sector moves into a repeatable renewal cycle for AI contracts.
