U.S. Army Advances Modular Drone Warfare Capabilities with New Technologies
The U.S. Army is enhancing drone operations with new modular warhead systems, the HEX-ESAD and PLUS, aimed at improving mission adaptability and efficiency. These advancements allow for rapid reconfiguration of drones to engage diverse targets, streamlining the integration of lethal capabilities in modern warfare.

The U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Armaments Center has introduced two modular technologies, HEX-ESAD and PLUS, designed to enhance drone warfare capabilities. These innovations allow for easy swapping of warheads and sensors to match mission requirements, contributing to the Picatinny Common Lethality Integration Kit (CLIK).
HEX-ESAD features a sequential arming process and user-guided commands, while PLUS warheads are adaptable to various drones, focusing on cost-effectiveness and lethality. The programs are in ongoing testing phases to refine their systems based on end-user feedback. A partnership with the National Armaments Consortium aims to ensure reliability and manufacturability of these technologies, which could significantly influence future drone warfare strategy.
