U.S. Army Upgrades Gray Eagle ER with Enhanced ELINT Capabilities
The U.S. Army has awarded General Atomics a contract to enhance the MQ-1C Gray Eagle ER with electronic intelligence (ELINT) capabilities. This upgrade improves long-range sensing for Integrated Air Defense System, increasing operational effectiveness and survivability for crewed Army aircraft.

The U.S. Army's MQ-1C Gray Eagle Extended Range (ER) is receiving an upgrade to its electronic intelligence (ELINT) capabilities through a contract with General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. This enhancement allows the Gray Eagle to operate outside threat ranges while providing critical information to ground commanders.
The ELINT sensor will identify and geo-locate threats essential to Joint Force Operations. Additionally, GA-ASI will collaborate with SNC to integrate advanced radar detection and signal collection technology.
The Gray Eagle ER also supports modernized Communications Intelligence (COMINT) and various sensor integrations under its C5ISR Modular Open Suite of Standards (CMOSS) architecture. During Project Convergence Capstone-5 (PCC-5), the Gray Eagle ER showcased its capabilities in a contested environment, enhancing the survivability of maneuver forces and supporting the Combined Joint Task Force (CJTF).
