US Coast Guard to Homeport First Two Arctic Security Cutters in Alaska by 2028
The US Coast Guard has confirmed the homeporting of its first two Arctic Security Cutters in Alaska, with delivery expected by late 2028. This initiative reflects a significant investment of $3.5 billion aimed at enhancing US Arctic capabilities and security.

The US Coast Guard will homeport two Arctic Security Cutters in Alaska, with the first deliveries anticipated by the end of 2028. This project is part of a broader initiative, backed by $3.5 billion from the Fiscal Year 2025 Reconciliation Bill, to expand the Arctic icebreaker fleet through contracts with Rauma Marine Constructions Oy, Bollinger Shipyards, and Davie Defense.
Finland will build up to four cutters while US shipyards will construct seven additional units. The Arctic Security Cutters are essential for defending US sovereignty and securing shipping lanes in the Arctic, thereby enhancing maritime commerce and crisis response capabilities in the region.
