U.S. Robotics Industry Warns Congress of Chinese Robotics Threats to National Security
Industry leaders from the U.S. robotics sector have expressed concerns to Congress regarding the threats posed by Chinese robotics firms, particularly Unitree Robotics. They warn that low-cost Chinese robots could be used for surveillance and disruption, urging legislative action to counteract Chinese market dominance and protect national security. The industry highlights the risks of cyber-physical systems, which could be exploited under China's National Intelligence Law. Additionally, large-scale Chinese government investments in robotics further threaten U.S. competitiveness.

The U.S. robotics industry has alerted Congress about potential threats from Chinese robotics companies, particularly Unitree Robotics. During a Homeland Security Committee hearing, industry leaders warned that low-cost Chinese robots could serve as tools for surveillance and infrastructure disruption.
They emphasized that these cyber-physical systems, integrated with autonomous capabilities, might compromise U.S. national security. The Chinese government's legal obligations compel companies to provide data access to national intelligence, raising concerns about espionage.
The industry called for legislation to control sensor technology deployment and establish a national robotics strategy. Notably, Chinese investments in robotics could disadvantage U.S. firms in research and development.
