UTA Secures $86M Navy Contract for Power and Propulsion Research
The University of Texas at Arlington has been awarded an $86 million contract by the U.S. Navy to enhance power and propulsion systems for naval shipbuilding. This initiative is led by UTA's Power and Energy Innovative Research Lab, which aims to drive advancements in energy technologies critical to future naval operations.

The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) has obtained an $86 million contract from the U.S. Navy to improve power and propulsion systems necessary for naval shipbuilding. The Power and Energy Innovative Research (PEIR) Lab will spearhead this initiative under the direction of David Wetz, a professor of electrical engineering.
The PEIR Lab, part of the Pulsed Power and Energy Laboratory, focuses on energy storage research, including battery and capacitor performance at high power levels. The facility's recent opening was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by university officials and local leaders. Successful execution of this contract may enhance the capabilities of naval technology, impacting future defense operations.
