Virgin Media O2 Implements 4G Small Cell at Cochno Farm, University of Glasgow
Virgin Media O2 has deployed a 4G small cell at Cochno Farm, part of a project with the Scottish Government, SFT, and VoltServer. This cost-effective solution combines mobile connectivity, power delivery, and IoT services using VoltServer's Digital Electricity technology, enabling coverage over distances up to 2km. The infrastructure supports agricultural research by linking livestock monitors and environmental sensors. The initiative aims to enhance rural connectivity in Scotland.

Virgin Media O2 has deployed a 4G small cell at Cochno Farm, University of Glasgow's research facility, with partial funding from the Scottish Government. Developed with the Scottish Futures Trust and VoltServer, the project employs Digital Electricity technology to deliver power and fibre over a single cable for distances up to 2km.
The infrastructure functions as a multi-operator neutral host, supporting various networks and an on-site EV charger. This connectivity enables real-time monitoring of livestock and environmental conditions, facilitating better decision-making for farmers and researchers. Future phases will expand IoT applications and automation in rural environments.
