Viridor and Councils Finalize £2 Billion Energy Recovery Facility in North-East UK
Viridor Ltd and Tees Valley Energy Recovery Ltd have reached financial close on the £2 billion Tees Valley Energy Recovery Facility, expected to become operational in 2030. This project aims to provide a sustainable waste management solution for over 1.5 million residents in the North-East, supporting local economic growth and job creation.

Financial close has been achieved for the Tees Valley Energy Recovery Facility (TVERF), a £2 billion project set to be operational by 2030. This public-private partnership will enable seven partner councils in the North-East UK to manage residual waste effectively.
The facility will process approximately 450,000 tonnes of waste annually and will supply baseload electricity to the local grid. Construction is scheduled to commence later this year, with Kanadevia Inova appointed as the EPC contractor.
The project is expected to create 50 full-time jobs and support hundreds during construction, aligning with regional goals to reduce landfill waste. The facility will also incorporate advanced waste processing technologies and may explore carbon capture options.
