W3C Launches Verifiable Supply Chain Community Group to Combat Fraud with VCs
The W3C has launched the Verifiable Supply Chain Community Group to enhance decentralized data standards in supply chains using Verifiable Credentials (VC). The initiative aims to reduce fraud and improve efficiency by enabling secure proofs of origin and compliance with existing standards such as GS1 EPCIS and ISO frameworks. The group will produce toolkits and specifications and establish certification guidelines for governance in supply chain claims.

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has initiated the Verifiable Supply Chain Community Group to advance decentralized standards for verifying data in global supply chains. This group will implement the W3C's Verifiable Credentials ecosystem to enhance trust, efficiency, and reduce fraud across industrial networks.
Key focuses include interoperability and compliance with standards like the EU's Deforestation Regulation and Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism. The initiative is aligned with efforts from the Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation and the IOTA Foundation to integrate verifiable digital identities into international trade.
