West Suffolk Council has granted approval for a net zero pod installation at Abbeycroft Leisure Centre, Bury St Edmunds. The project includes air-source heat pumps, solar panels, and an energy substation, expected to save around 380 tonnes of carbon annually. The loss of two parking spots was deemed acceptable by planning officers, and the initiative received no objections from residents.

West Suffolk Council approved plans for a net zero pod at Abbeycroft Leisure Centre in Bury St Edmunds, aiming to eliminate fossil fuel heating. The project includes the installation of an air-source heat pump system, solar panels, and an energy substation, which will reduce carbon emissions by approximately 380 tonnes yearly.
Although two parking spots will be lost, this was considered acceptable due to nearby parking availability. Bury Town Council supported the project, and it received no resident concerns. Upgrades to the entrance canopy are also planned.
