Winchester Science Centre Upgrades to Air Source Heat Pumps in £700,000 Sustainability Initiative
Winchester Science Centre has completed a £700,000 upgrade, replacing its oil heating system with air source heat pumps. This project, the centre's largest sustainability investment in 25 years, involved the installation of five heat pumps, significantly reducing reliance on fossil fuels. The new system was commissioned in January after two years of planning. The previous oil system consumed up to 1,000 liters of oil per week, making it the largest carbon emitter for the center.

Winchester Science Centre has transitioned to a sustainable heating system by replacing its oil-based heating with air source heat pumps, completing a £700,000 infrastructure upgrade. This marks the most significant sustainability effort in 25 years, with five heat pumps installed in December and operational in January after two years of planning.
The previous oil heating system, in use since 2002, could consume up to 1,000 liters of oil weekly, contributing significantly to carbon emissions. The new system eliminates fossil fuel use and CO2 emissions, aligning with Wonderseekers' mission for environmental sustainability.
