Woodside Reviews Beaumont Blue Ammonia Plant Amid CF's Louisiana Project Progress
Woodside Energy is conducting a strategic review of its Beaumont, Texas blue ammonia plant, potentially considering a sale. In contrast, CF Industries has commenced construction on a $3.7 billion blue ammonia facility in Louisiana, signaling ongoing investment in low-carbon projects despite market uncertainties.

Woodside Energy is evaluating its Beaumont, Texas blue ammonia plant, acquired for $2.35 billion from OCI Global, which began construction in 2022. The facility currently operates at only 69% capacity, lacking carbon capture, as associated infrastructure from Linde and ExxonMobil won't be completed until next year.
Meanwhile, CF Industries initiated a $3.7 billion project in Louisiana, capable of producing 1.4 million metric tons of ammonia annually, in partnership with Jera and Mitsui & Co. This contrast highlights ongoing investment efforts in low-carbon ammonia amid a backdrop of project cancellations and regulatory uncertainty. Market dynamics may continue to challenge the viability of such investments.
