Wärtsilä to Supply Ammonia Engines for New Gas Carriers
Wärtsilä will provide its 25 Ammonia engines and propulsion systems for two new gas carriers, enhancing environmental performance. This initiative supports the shipping sector's shift towards decarbonisation, aiming to meet net-zero emissions by 2050.

Wärtsilä has secured an order to supply its Wärtsilä 25 Ammonia auxiliary engines, along with a NOx reducer and gas valve unit, for two midsize LPG/liquid ammonia carriers. These vessels, with a capacity of 51,350 m³, are being constructed at Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering in Shanghai and will be managed by Navigator Amon Shipping AS, a joint venture of Navigator Gas and Amon Maritime.
The engine order was finalized in Q2 2026, while the propulsion system was booked in Q3 2026, with deliveries beginning in June 2027. Utilizing ammonia as fuel will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 90% compared to diesel engines, aligning with industry goals for reduced emissions and compliance with regulatory standards.
