Yellow Fish Symbols Initiative Expands to Silsden for Pollution Reduction
Yorkshire Water is extending the Yellow Fish program to Silsden, focusing on reducing pollution entering watercourses. This initiative involves installing Yellow Fish symbols next to surface water drains, reminding residents that waste from these drains flows directly into local water bodies.

The Yellow Fish program, aimed at minimizing pollution, is set to expand into Silsden. This initiative, led by Yorkshire Water and River Holme Connections, has already placed 43 symbols in the Holme Valley to raise environmental awareness.
The symbols serve as a reminder that surface water drains are distinct from sewage systems, with waste entering them flowing directly to local watercourses. Yorkshire Water is also investing £1.5 billion to mitigate storm overflow use and £350 million across 85 wastewater treatment sites to enhance river health and bathing water quality. The initiative may foster community engagement and promote responsible waste disposal, which is critical for safeguarding local ecosystems.
