Yuma Test Center Implements Proof Gun System to Enhance Artillery Munition Production
Yuma Test Center's new Proof Gun System (PGS) allows for the testing of gun tubes without the need for a weapon system, streamlining artillery testing processes. This initiative supports the U.S. Army's goal of increasing production capacity for 155mm artillery munitions to 100,000 rounds per month.
The Proof Gun System (PGS) at Yuma Test Center (YTC) enables mounted gun tube testing without requiring an entire weapon system, thereby enhancing the efficiency of artillery testing. Funded by the U.S.
Army's initiative to boost 155mm artillery production to 100,000 rounds monthly, the PGS is designed for a lifespan of 30-50 years and features a hydraulic and mechanical operation with no electronics. The system was installed on a robust reaction mass built to withstand the firing power, ensuring safety and stability during tests. The arrival of a second PGS is expected in May, with future plans to accommodate various tube types, further optimizing testing flexibility and reducing operational costs.
