ZF Launches Production-Ready Steer-By-Wire System for Software-Defined Vehicles

In 2025, ZF launched its production-ready steer-by-wire steering system, a critical advancement for software-defined vehicles (SDVs). This innovation replaces traditional mechanical connections with an electronic system, enabling multiple chassis actuators to operate in unison for optimized vehicle dynamics and safety.
The cubiX platform coordinates these actuators, allowing for real-time adjustments that enhance performance and facilitate the integration of autonomous driving capabilities. ZF's system is already deployed in the Nio ET9 and will be featured in Mercedes-Benz vehicles by 2026.
The shift to steer-by-wire not only improves driving characteristics but also offers design flexibility, reducing crash risk and manufacturing complexity.
