$1 Billion Desalination Plant to be Built in South Padre Island, Texas
A joint venture between US Desalination and IDE Technologies aims to construct a $1 billion desalination facility in South Padre Island. This project will provide 50 million gallons of fresh water daily, addressing water supply challenges in the Rio Grande Valley.

A new desalination facility is set to be developed on South Padre Island, Texas, at an estimated cost of $1 billion. The plant, formed through a partnership between US Desalination and IDE Technologies, will utilize reverse osmosis technology to convert seawater from the Gulf of Mexico into potable water, aiming to deliver 50 million gallons per day.
This privately financed project will support public utilities and industrial users in the Rio Grande Valley, which has faced increasing water supply stress. The initiative responds to the need for alternative water sources as dependency on the Rio Grande becomes less viable.
