1,000 Tribal Households Near Statue of Unity Adopt Biogas for Clean Energy
Approximately 1,000 tribal households in Gujarat's Narmada district are transitioning to self-sufficiency in cooking fuel through biogas plants. This initiative, launched during the 2025 Unity Day parade, aims to reduce reliance on LPG and firewood, enhancing energy access and agricultural productivity.

The installation of biogas plants for nearly 1,000 tribal households around the Statue of Unity is advancing with over 665 units already operational. The project targets 89 villages in Garudeshwar taluka, facilitated by the local panchayat and supervised by the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA).
Biogas plants utilize organic waste for fuel and produce slurry for soil enhancement, improving both health and agricultural output. As installations near completion, the initiative represents a significant move towards sustainable rural development, potentially decreasing deforestation and health risks from traditional cooking methods.
