100,000 MW Natural Gas Development for U.S. Data Centers
Nearly 100,000 MW of natural gas-fired power is under development in the U.S. to support the growing data center sector. This shift is driven by delays in grid connections and rising electricity costs, prompting developers to invest in behind-the-meter solutions.

In the U.S., there are approximately 100,000 MW of natural gas-fired power projects underway specifically for data centers. This shift is occurring as developers contend with lengthy grid connection delays and increasing consumer electric bills.
Notably, the state of California, which has an electricity demand of about 27,000 MW, exemplifies the scale of energy usage, being the 4th largest economy globally. At least 15 significant projects exceeding the size of the Goodnight campus are currently in the development pipeline, with some yet to file emissions permits. The trend towards natural gas is poised to impact energy markets significantly, raising concerns about greenhouse gas emissions.
