£13M Water Quality Upgrades Completed in West Sussex
Southern Water has invested over £13 million to enhance water quality at treatment facilities in West Sussex, focusing on local river health. The upgrades aim to reduce nutrient levels and improve environmental standards across three sites, impacting the North River, River Ouse, and River Adur.

Over £13 million has been invested by Southern Water in upgrades at wastewater treatment works in Forest Green, Balcombe, and Ashington. Key enhancements include new chemical dosing equipment for phosphorus removal, additional effluent quality monitors, and increased storm tank capacity.
Specifically, Ashington's treatment capacity has risen from 23 to 30.7 litres per second. The initiative is part of a broader £8.5 billion investment strategy aimed at environmental improvement and infrastructure modernization. These upgrades are crucial for safeguarding sensitive watercourses and ensuring healthier river ecosystems.
