1,521 Homes in Sheffield Experience Power Outage Due to Safety Interruption
A safety interruption caused by a low-hanging power cable affected 1,521 homes in Stocksbridge, Sheffield. This incident highlights ongoing infrastructure issues and investment needs in the power distribution network.

On April 27, 1,521 homes in the Stocksbridge area of Sheffield experienced a power cut lasting 1 hour and 40 minutes, attributed to a safety interruption initiated by Northern Powergrid at 4:50 PM due to a low-hanging overhead line. Engineers determined that the issue was caused by a third-party overhead line, and power was restored by 6:40 PM.
Northern Powergrid is addressing separate reports of low voltage in the area due to ongoing investment works at a nearby substation. Completion of cable replacement and infrastructure investment is planned for later this year, aiming to enhance network resilience and minimize future outages.
