250MW AI Data Center Campus Planned in Bordeaux, France

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

A 250MW data center campus is planned for Bordeaux, France, to support sovereign AI infrastructure. The 20-hectare campus, to be built on the car park at Bordeaux's Parc des Expositions, will consist of five buildings and utilize 250MW of the 380MW power available on site.

The project, known as BXIA, is proposed by Osae Partners and NFU, following the abandonment of a previous plan by Equinix for a second data center. It aims to support French companies, including AI lab Mistral and Airbus, and is backed by European investors.

The estimated construction cost is €3 billion ($3.59 billion), potentially reaching €12 billion ($14.35 billion) including hardware. The first building is expected to be operational by 2028, utilizing a closed-loop water system. Approval for land use changes will be discussed by local councilors.
