£3.6m Wastewater Network Upgrade to Enhance Capacity and Environmental Protection in Bellaghy

WATER INFRASTRUCTURE & DESALINATION

A £3.6 million wastewater network upgrade is underway in Bellaghy, involving the installation of larger diameter sewers to increase capacity and reduce flooding risks. The project includes improvements at Bellaghy Wastewater Treatment Works, such as additional stormwater storage to protect local waterways.

Contractor Murphy Dawson WAM has started pipelaying on private lands near the treatment works. An archaeologist is overseeing soil stripping to preserve any significant finds. The project is scheduled for completion in early 2027, aiming to enhance the wastewater network's resilience and accommodate future development. NI Water, along with partners Murphy Dawson WAM and Tetra Tech RPS, is coordinating with local landowners and residents throughout the process.
