A 40 MW battery storage facility has been approved in Alampra, Nicosia, igniting outrage among residents and lawmakers. The facility, designed to hold lithium batteries just meters from homes, poses significant safety risks, particularly regarding fire hazards.

Lawmakers, including DIPA Cooperation MP Giorgos Penintaex, criticized the approval process for lacking public consultation and highlighted the facility's proximity to existing infrastructure, which exacerbates noise and traffic issues.
