400 kV Transmission Line Commissioned to Enhance Mumbai's Power Supply
The Babhaleshwar-Kudus 400 kV transmission line, completed in March 2026, enhances power infrastructure in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. This project is set to reduce transmission losses and increase power transfer capacity to meet rising demand.

The Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (Mahatransco) has commissioned the Babhaleshwar-Kudus 400 kV transmission line, which will increase power transfer capacity by up to 3000 MW. The project aimed to enhance the stability and efficiency of power supply across Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Ahilyanagar districts, while reducing transmission losses by approximately 5 MW.
Originally approved in 2010, it faced delays but was completed in March 2026. The line spans 228 km with 715 transmission towers installed, overcoming challenges like land compensation and environmental clearances. Improved grid reliability is anticipated, along with additional support to the Kudus substation to accommodate growing electricity demands.
