50 Billion SEK AI Data Center Project Launched in Borlänge, Sweden
A new AI data center project in Borlänge, Sweden, aims to support Europe's digital sovereignty, involving an investment of approximately 50 billion SEK. The first building is expected to operationalize in 2027, with Mistral contributing about 12.8 billion SEK. The center will serve various companies, including BMW and Deepl, and will utilize local infrastructure for cloud and AI services, creating a European AI technology stack.

A 50 billion SEK AI data center project will replace an old paper mill in Borlänge, Sweden, with WSP responsible for reusing the building materials. The center, expected to be operational by 2027, will enhance Europe's digital sovereignty.
Mistral has invested around 12.8 billion SEK, utilizing a significant portion of the center's computing power, alongside clients like BMW and Deepl. The facility aims to establish a European AI technology stack, processing data locally. It is seen as critical infrastructure for Europe's competitiveness and economic development.
