5C Group Unveils Green Plan for $1.3 Billion Springfield Data Center in Ohio

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTUREFUSION & ADVANCED NUCLEAR POWER

5C Group has released a sustainability plan for its $1.3 billion data center facility in Springfield, Ohio, amid criticism over resource consumption by data centers. The project will source at least 30% of its energy from renewable sources such as wind, solar, or nuclear power through power purchase agreements with local developers.

The facility is expected to create 120 full-time jobs and contribute over $14 million in payroll. 5C has applied for a water permit to use up to 300,000 gallons of water daily, though only 10% is expected to be used under peak conditions. The facility will utilize a direct liquid cooling system to minimize water needs. 5C Group, a spinoff of Hypertec, oversees the engineering and maintenance of the facility, promising to address the community's concerns.
