€5M Horizon Europe COMPASS Project to Enhance Offshore Wind Sustainability

WIND ENERGY

The COMPASS project, launched in November 2025, is a €5 million Horizon Europe initiative aimed at enhancing the sustainability of offshore wind farms in Europe. It will develop an open-source decision-support platform that integrates environmental, economic, and social models alongside life-cycle methodologies and a digital twin of offshore wind farms.

The platform will assess interactions between wind farms and marine ecosystems, aiding decision-making processes. Key methodologies include life cycle assessment, social life cycle assessment, and life cycle costing.

The project is coordinated by France Energies Marines and involves partners such as RWTH Aachen University, Parkwind, and RWE Offshore Wind. A project website will be launched by April 2026 to share updates with stakeholders.
