6,500 Trees to be Planted on Burned Land Near Hardin
Mast Reforestation initiates a project to plant 6,500 ponderosa pines on 125 acres affected by the 2021 Poverty Flats Fire. This restoration effort is part of a broader strategy to mitigate carbon emissions through biomass burial.

Mast Reforestation has begun planting 6,500 ponderosa pine trees across 125 acres in Hardin, aimed for completion by the end of Thursday. This initiative follows the 2021 Poverty Flats Fire that scorched 75,000 acres, including local ranches.
The funding for land restoration comes from carbon credits purchased by companies aiming to reduce their carbon footprints. In addition to tree planting, the company previously implemented biomass burial to sequester carbon, with ongoing monitoring of the burial site to assess environmental impacts. The project represents significant progress in restoring wildfire-impacted areas, emphasizing the importance of ecological recovery in the region.
