6K Additive Secures $2M Defense Contract for Domestic Metal Powder Production
6K Additive has been awarded a $2 million Phase II contract to recover and localize critical metals for defense applications. This initiative aims to repurpose scrap from military sites, reducing dependence on foreign metal supplies.

6K Additive has received a $2 million Phase II contract to repurpose discarded metals from U.S. military depots over 18 months. This initiative targets nickel, titanium, tungsten, and niobium, materials heavily sourced from abroad, with China and Brazil being key suppliers.
The program will convert approximately 60,000 pounds of weekly mixed metal scrap at aviation maintenance depots into high-grade powders using proprietary processing methods. Automation will be integrated through a robotic sorting system to enhance operational efficiency.
Other manufacturers, including IperionX and Amaero, are similarly pursuing contracts to establish domestic supply chains for critical metals. These projects emphasize the need for a U.S.-controlled powder supply chain for defense applications.
