80MW/320MWh Battery Storage Facility Inaugurated in Lakeshore, Ontario
The Sanjgon Battery Energy Storage Facility, with a capacity of 80MW and 320MWh, was inaugurated in Lakeshore, Ontario. Developed by Boralex and Walpole Island First Nation at a cost of $172M, the facility aims to stabilize the grid and support renewable energy integration.

The Sanjgon Battery Energy Storage Facility was inaugurated on March 30, 2026, costing $172M and developed by Boralex in partnership with Walpole Island First Nation. The facility, featuring 89 Tesla Megapack 2XL units, can store 320MWh of energy and will operate under a 20-year agreement.
The project created approximately 150 construction jobs and began development three years prior. It is positioned to assist Ontario's electricity grid during peak demand and enhance renewable energy usage.
Boralex plans to invest $1B in Ontario in the coming years, indicating strong regional economic development potential. The facility's success reflects the importance of collaboration among local stakeholders.
