$832M Google Data Center Project Maize Under Construction in Indiana
Google's Project Maize, a $832 million data center, is now under construction in Michigan City, Indiana, despite local opposition. The development is part of Indiana's growing status as a data center hub, attracting significant investment from major tech firms.

Construction on Google's $832 million Project Maize data center campus has begun in Michigan City, Indiana, located at 402 Royal Road. The site, previously owned by Federal Mogul Corporation and now by Phoenix Investors, will have Google covering all power and infrastructure costs.
Local opposition has surfaced regarding environmental and health concerns associated with the data center. The Indiana Department of Environmental Management has granted an air permit for 66 diesel-fired generators, despite petitions from organizations requesting the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency to intervene. This comes as Indiana positions itself as a key data center location, highlighted by Amazon's planned $11 billion investment for a facility in the state.
