85% of Irish Businesses Prioritize Sustainability; 40% Have Retrofitted Buildings for Energy Efficiency
An Amárach survey commissioned by the Department of Enterprise reveals that 85% of Irish SMEs regard sustainability as important. Approximately 40% of surveyed businesses have retrofitted buildings within the last two years to enhance energy efficiency.
Minister Peter Burke noted that although many businesses see the benefits, 44% cite upfront costs as a barrier. Support through the Energy Efficiency Grant, offering up to €10,000, aims to alleviate this issue.
The survey also examined the circular economy, with 35% of businesses engaged and a quarter of non-participants showing interest. The Climate Toolkit for Business assists SMEs in measuring their carbon footprint and accessing government support.
