88 Injured in Loco Train Collision at Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydropower Project Tunnel, Uttarakhand
Eighty-eight individuals were injured in a loco train collision within the Pipalkoti tunnel of the Vishnugad-Pipalkoti hydropower project in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand, on December 31. The accident occurred around 8:30 PM when a train carrying workers collided with another transporting construction materials.
The District Magistrate reported that 109 people were on the workers' train, and none of the injuries were serious. Seventy laborers were treated at Gopeshwar District Hospital, with 66 discharged after first aid, while four remain hospitalized.
Eighteen others received first aid at Vivekananda Hospital in Pipalkoti. The Railways clarified that the involved trains were not part of the Indian Railways network but local transport vehicles used for construction. The project will generate 444 megawatts of electricity and is scheduled for completion next year.
