ABB's investment of around $200 million will enhance medium-voltage manufacturing across Europe, focusing on increasing production capacity and accelerating the transition to advanced power distribution technologies. This includes a $100 million facility in Dalmine, Italy, and additional capacity expansions in Bulgaria, Finland, Germany, Norway, and Poland.
Key technologies produced will include SF6-free switchgear and grid automation products, addressing the projected rise of electricity's share in final energy consumption from 20% to nearly 30% by 2030. These strategic investments aim to meet the growing demands from utilities, industries, and data centers, ensuring more resilient power distribution systems. The move reflects ABB's commitment to adapting to evolving energy landscapes and reinforcing its manufacturing capabilities in Europe.
