ABB to Install Electric Infrastructure at Copper Mountain Mine, Targeting 50% CO2 Reduction
ABB's installation at Copper Mountain Mining aims for over 50% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2035 through electrification. The project includes a rectifier station and overhead line system to support electric mining trucks.

ABB will implement power infrastructure for electric trucks at Copper Mountain Mining in Canada, targeting a reduction of CO2 emissions by over 50% by 2035. This initiative involves constructing and commissioning a rectifier station and overhead line system.
The first phase of the truck system is set for installation by the end of 2021. Copper Mountain Mining estimates that the mine will achieve this emissions reduction through electrification and capacity increases over the next five to seven years.
ABB has previously installed a similar transformer station at Boliden AB's Aitik mine in Sweden, which is the largest copper open-pit mine in the country. This project could influence industry standards for sustainability in mining operations.
